Hans von Schwaz#

Hans of Schwaz, late gothic portrait painter; originally from Ulm (Germany). His style is similar to that of B. Strigel; it is probable that he, too, studied under B. Zeitblom. He is mentioned in documents from 1510 as the painter of two portraits of Mary of Burgundy; settled at Schwaz (Tyrol) in 1515, where he worked as a portrait painter at court in Innsbruck as well as for rich Tyrolean merchants, such as the Fugger family. He painted around 26 portraits (e.g. of Emperor Maximilian I, of Emperor Ferdinand I and his wife Anna and of Anton Fugger).
