Haslach an der Mühl#
Haslach an der Muehl, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Rohrbach im Muehlkreis, alt. 530 m, pop. 2,529, area 12.41 km2, situated at the confluence of the Steinerne Muehl and the Grosse Muehl rivers, near the border to the Czech Republic. - Customs authority post, hospital; school: Webereifachschule (weaving college); a centre of the textile industry in the Muehlviertel region (weaving began in 1833, today 2 large and several small weaving mills); some summer tourism. - First documented mention around 1256; late-Gothic parish church with elaborate net vault (around 1500, 1680 rebuilt after a disastrous fire); detached former defence tower extended in 1906/07; remains of medieval fortified gate have been preserved; column dedicated to the Virgin Mary (1745); town houses with Gothic core, mostly late-Baroque - classicist façades. Museum of local history and culture (weaving museum, merchant museum).
