Hasner von Artha, Leopold#
b. Prague (Czech Republic), March 15, 1818, d. Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), June 5, 1891, liberal politician, university professor (philosophy of law, political economy), as Minister of Education (1867-1870) introduced significant measures for the development of education: abolished the influence of the Church and denominations on lessons (1868), introduced an interdenominational school ( Reichsvolksschulgesetz, 1869), set up an equivalent Mittelschule without Latin (1868, Realschule), and also set up a faculty of medicine at the University of Innsbruck (1869). After his failure as Prime Minister (1870) was politically active in the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat.
