Haus, Anton Freiherr von#
b. Tolmin (Slovenia), June 13, 1851, d. near Pula, Croatia (then Pola), Feb. 8, 1917, admiral. 1900-1901 commander of one of the corvettes circumnavigating the earth, 1901-1902 commander of a frigate of the international strike fleet during the Chinese Boxer Rebellion; in 1910 vice admiral, 1912-1913 naval inspector, 1913 navy commander. In 1915 headed the imperial fleet during the attack on the east coast of Italy. In 1916 became Grand Admiral. Was posthumously dubbed a knight of Maria Theresia and raised to the nobility.
