Hausbesorger#
Hausbesorger (caretaker, janitor): as defined by the Caretakers´ Act 1969 (Federal Law Gazette 1970/16, Hausbesorgergesetz) an employee who is commissioned and paid by the owner of a house or apartment building to clean, maintain and supervise the building and the pavements. The caretaker is entitled to a rent-free flat provided by the employer. This form of accommodation is not subject to the law governing tenancy as its use is linked to the existence of a work contract. This close interrelation between work contract and accommodation is one of the reasons why the regular termination of employment of a caretaker can only be effected upon serious grounds.
