Salvation Army, the Austrian branch of the religious and charitable movement, which is organised on a military pattern, is active in social welfare within the "Verein der Heilsarmee" (Association of the Salvation Army) on the basis of Christian (Protestant) principles. The Salvation Army runs one home for men and one for women in Vienna as well as an evangelical centre. The Salvation Army is a temperance movement opposed to dancing, theatre and the use of narcotics.
