Heimatforschung#

Local Area Studies (German: Heimatforschung), the systematic study of the history of, and the phenomena characterising, a geographically and socially defined area (Heimat), including the analysis of its physiographical, economic, social and cultural features. Frequently a field of lay activity, Heimat research lays claim to being regarded as a scholarly discipline. Often organised in regional and national associations, which also publish periodicals.
