Helpfau-Uttendorf, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Braunau, alt. 419 m, pop. 3,109, area 26.43 km2, twin municipality, industrial and commercial market town on the River Mattig, north of Mattighofen. - About 67 % of all employed persons (1991) work in the manufacturing sector: brickyard, brewery, fuel tanks, glassworks, plastics industry, paint manufacture, road-marking firm, important building trade. - Graves with grave goods from the Hallstatt period were found on the plateau of Lohnau (e.g. golden collar). First documented mention of Helpfau 789, Uttendorf around 1100. Helpfau Baroque parish church (1724-1735), 1775 restored after a fire, high altar (1839); Uttendorf parish church (1770-1780) Baroque alterations, high altar (1852); St. Florian Gothic pilgrimage church redecorated in Baroque style around 1720, richly ornamented high altar (around 1670).
