Hempel, Josef Sebastian Ritter von#
b. Vienna, Feb. 9, 1800, d. Tokod near Gyoer (Hungary), Sept. 2, 1871. Painter of religious subjects and writer, Nazarene. Studied at the Vienna Academy, from 1821 lived in Florence and Rome where he joined the Nazarenes. In 1825 returned to Vienna and in 1848 founded a drawing school and a school for deaf mutes in Klagenfurt.
