Henckel, Lazarus ab 1607 Henckel von Donnersmarck#
b. Leutschau (Levoča, Slovakia), Oct. 29, 1551, d. Vienna, July 13, 1624, wholesale merchant, mining industrialist, banker; forebear of the aristocratic family Henckel von Donnersmarck. Played an important role in the economic life of Vienna and as a financier of the State during the Turkish Wars. Held high office (Council member, associate judge of the City Court) even though he refused to renounce his Lutheran faith. Was awarded the domains of Oderberg and Beuthen in Silesia in return for loans he granted to the state.
