Henckel von Donnersmarck, Hugo Graf#

b. Siemianowitz (Siemianowice, Poland), April 26, 1811, d. Vienna, Oct. 4, 1890, landowner and industrialist, member of the Henckel von Donnersmarck family. Took over his father's possessions in the domain of Beuthen, Upper Silesia, in 1832, where he was instrumental in developing agriculture and animal husbandry as well as industry (1st puddling and rolling mill ("Laurahuette") on German-speaking territory). Acquired the domains of Wolfsberg and St. Leonhard in Carinthia in 1846, where he promoted agriculture, forestry and industrial operations. Gradually moved iron production from Frantschach to Zeltweg, where he had built a puddling and rolling mill in 1851/52, which produced the first armour plating in Austria, and which was later acquired by Oesterreichisch-Alpine Montangesellschaft. He replaced the iron mill at Frantschach by a soda pulp mill (1881/82), the forerunner of the present firm Frantschach AG.
