Hofkirche#

Hofkirche Church (also called Heiligkreuz or Franciscan church) in Innsbruck, built in 1553-63 as a monastic church and as the location of the Maximilian, Tomb of after plans by A. Crivelli, executed by N. Tuering d. J. and Marx della Bolla, a major œuvre of early Renaissance in the Tirol. Heavily damaged during an earthquake (1689), restored and decorated with enormous Baroque ceiling stuccos under Emperor Leopold I. Prince´s Choir of Archduke Ferdinand II, designed as a Renaissance gallery with wooden inlays; Renaissance organ (1560); Classicist altar by N. Pacassi, donated by Maria Theresia (1758). Tombs: Katharina of Loxan (with Sarcophagus by A. Colin), Bishop J. Nasus, A. Hofer (body transferred there from Mantua in 1823), etc.


Attached to the Hofkirche Church is the Silver Chapel, built in 2 stages 1577/78 and 1586/87 by Hans Lucchese as tomb for Archduke Ferdinand II (d. 1595) and his first wife Philippine Welser (d. 1580) (sepulchres by A. Colin). The altar of the Virgin Mary with embossed silver decorations by Anton Ort gave the chapel its name. 5 historic bells (16th /17th centuries).
