Hohberg, Wolf Helmhard Freiherr von#
b. Oberthumeritz (municipality of Japons, Lower Austria), Oct. 20, 1612, d. Regensburg (Germany), June 29, 1688, author. Protestant member of the lower aristocracy in the Waldviertel region (Lower Austria), 1652-1664 lived in Rohrbach castle near Haag (Lower Austria), where he produced his major works, in 1665 emigrated to Regensburg. Was the most significant Austrian author of the 17th century (1652 member of the Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft, an association for the promotion of German language and literature). His works were about the country life of nobles; also wrote epic verse in the chivalric tradition and on religious subjects.
