Hoher Markt#
Hoher Markt, in the 1st district of Vienna, former area around the "via principalis" of the Roman camp of Vindobona, in the Middle Ages centre of middle-class Vienna with numerous guild halls, 1328-1839 used as main tribunal square. Vermaehlungsbrunnen (Marriage fountain) in its centre, built in wood around 1706 by J. B. Fischer von Erlach, built in marble and metal 1729-32 by his son Joseph Emanuel. In 1948 Roman officers´ quarters were found, open to visitors since 1950. The building displaying the Ankeruhr is also located on the Hoher Markt.
