Hornykiewicz, Oleh#

Hornykiewicz, Oleh, b. Sychow (Ukraine), Nov. 17, 1926, pharmacologist. Studied in Vienna; from 1964 professor at the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Vienna. 1968-1976 professor at the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Toronto; since 1976 head of the Department of Biochemical Pharmacology of the University of Vienna; also did research at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Did pioneering research on Parkinson´s disease and the role of dopamine in causing it. Awarded the Wittgenstein-Prize in 1993.
