Day-Care Centres, half-day or all-day institutions (no overnight stays) looking after pupils of compulsory schooling age after school and during the holidays. Day-Care Centres developed from the care institutions run by various associations in the late 19th century; in the years leading up to the first World War there were often organised on a military basis and in the inter-war period were also influenced by ideological and political considerations. Today they are mainly financed by the municipalities and by church institutions.
