Hummel, Johann Nepomuk#
Hummel, Johann Nepomuk, b. Bratislava (Slovakia), Nov. 14, 1778, d. Weimar (Germany), Oct. 17, 1837, pianist, composer and teacher. Studied under W. A. Mozart, J. G. Albrechtsberger, A. Salieri and J. Haydn. A child prodigy, he went on a concert tour through Europe at the age of ten, from 1804-1811 was conductor of the orchestra of Prince Esterházy as Haydn's successor. In 1814 H. performed to great acclaim in the presence of the participants of the Congress of Vienna. In 1819 appointed conductor to the Grand Duke in Weimar.
