Jaeger von Jaxtthal, Friedrich, b. Kirchberg an der Jaxt (Germany), Sept. 4, 1784, d. Vienna, Dec. 26, 1871, noted ophthalmologist and surgeon, father of Eduard Jaeger von Jaxtthal; professor in Vienna, promoted lentectomy and linear section as standard operation technique for cataracts. Reorganised the public health service in Turkey.
