Jarno, Josef eigentlich J. Kohner#
b. Budapest (Hungary), Aug. 24, 1866, d. Vienna, Jan. 11, 1932, actor, theatre manager; husband of the folk-play actress H. Niese. 1885 debut at the Kurtheater of Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), where he performed regularly every summer until 1899. In 1897 assumed the management of the newly built open-air theatre at Bad Aussee, 1899-1923 manager of the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna (focus on modern drama: H. Ibsen, A. Strindberg, A. Schnitzler, G. B. Shaw). In 1905 bought the "Fuerst Theater", which he managed as a comedy theatre side by side with the Theater in der Josefstadt. 1926-1931 manager of the Renaissance Theatre in Vienna. Organised literary evenings, promoted contemporary writers.
