Johannes von Gmunden#

Johannes von Gmunden, b. Gmunden (Upper Austria), around 1380/84, d. Vienna, Feb. 23, 1442, humanist, mathematician and astronomer at the University of Vienna, brought the mathematical and astronomical knowledge of Antiquity and of Arabian scholars to Central Europe. His astronomical diagrams and calculations were epochal. He published the first printed calendar in the German language and is credited with the first map of Vienna ( Albertinischer Plan). Before his death priest in Laa an der Thaya.
