Kaisergebirge#

Kaisergebirge Mountains, mountain range in the North- Tyrolean Limestone Alps between the Inn and Grosse Ache rivers, to the east of Kufstein; several magnificent peaks: the rugged, jagged Wilder Kaiser (Vorderer Kaiser), a 22 km long limestone range (Ellmauer Halt 2,344 m) to the south and the lower Zahmer Kaiser (Hinterer Kaiser) with the Pyramidenspitze (1,997 m) to the north, which are separated from each other by the Kaiser valley and the Stripsenjoch pass (1,577 m). A special limestone, Wetterstein Limestone, is the predominant rock of the Kaisergebirge. Names such as "Teufelswurzgarten" (devil´s herb garden) and "Teufelskraxe" (devil´s climb) serve as reminders of the search for legendary treasure inside the mountains. Rock climbing on Fleischbank (2,186 m), Totenkirchl (2,190 m), Predigtstuhl (2,116 m). At the southern foot of the Wilder Kaiser lies Lake Hintersteiner See and to the north of the Zahmer Kaiser, Lake Walchsee. The Steinbergalm to the northwest of the Wilder Kaiser can be reached by chair-lift from Kufstein. Mountain refuges: Stripsenjochhaus, Vorderkaiserfeldenhuette (1388 m), Gruttenhuette (1,620 m), Gaudeamushuette (1,263 m).
