Kamp#
Kamp River (kelt. "kambos" = crooked), northern tributary of the Danube in Lower Austria. The Kamp begins at Rappottenstein (alt. 671 m) in the southwestern Waldviertel, at the confluence of the Kleiner Kamp and Grosser Kamp streams, it feeds the Ottenstein, Dobra und Thurnberg storage lakes east of Zwettl, turns to the south at Rosenburg (alt. 268 m), flowing to the west of the Manhartsberg Hill, where the valley widens towards the Tulln Basin, and joins the Danube south of Grafenwoerth (alt. 190 m). Above the mouth of the river, the mean rate of flow is 8 m3/sec. In the southern Kamptal valley (Zoebing alt. 211 m, Langenlois alt. 219 m). Fruit and wine are cultivated. Zwettl monastery and the castles and ruins of Rappottenstein, Lichtenfels, Ottenstein, Dobra, Krumau, Schauenstein, Rosenburg, Gars und Schoenberg are all in the valley of the River Kamp; largest towns: Zwettl (alt. 518 m) and Gars am Kamp river (alt. 256 m).
