Kirschner, Ferdinand#
Kirschner, Ferdinand, b. Vienna, May 18, 1821, d. Vienna, March 3, 1896, architect. From 1850 civil servant of the building authority, 1858 court architect, 1865-1868 carried out restoration work on the Hradčany Castle in Prague; 1870-1895 Administrative director of the Hofburg Imperial Castle in Vienna, responsible for renovations and planning projects in the Hofburg area (including the decoration of the Redoutensaele conference rooms 1892, partly destroyed by fire in 1992) and designs for coffins in the Kapuzinergruft burial vault of the Habsburgs (Crown Prince Rudolf, 1889). His chief work is the Michaelertrakt of the Vienna Hofburg (1889-1893).
