b. Graz (Styria), Oct. 27, 1945, transport agent and politician (OeVP, Austrian People's Party). Since 1970 has been active in the Austrian women's movement; 1977-1981 member of the Bundesrat, 1981-988 member of the Styrian Landtag, from 1988 member of the Styrian government in charge of economic affairs, tourism and traffic, 1993-1996 deputy Landeshauptmann of Styria, since 1996 Landeshauptmann of Styria (first woman provincial governor in Austria) and chairperson of the OeVP in Styria.
