Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn, Upper Austria, municipality in the district of Kirchdorf an der Krems, alt. 466 m, pop. 1,099, area 108.03 km2, bi-seasonal tourist resort (43,045 overnight stays) in the Steyr valley. - Hydroelectric power station, (built in 1975, 20 MW) encompassing Lake Klaus (leisure centre); lime, ballast and asphalt works. Parish church integrated into a former castle (built in 1618), remarkable Baroque high altar (Tempietto altar from 1775); Baroque chapel in the presbytery (built in 1731, enlarged in 1947/48); castle ruins (first documented mention 1192); castle built in 1578, alterations in Baroque style by J. M. Prunner in 1730. Music festival in summer. Frauenstein parish and pilgrimage church, situated northeast of Klaus an der Phyrnbahn in the municipality of Molln, Gothic, partly Baroque church, with famous Late Gothic Virgin of Mercy (1515, attributed to Gregor Erhart) on the Baroque high altar; ravine with Strindberg path.
