Kleiber, Carlos#
b. Berlin (Germany), July 3, 1930, conductor; son of Erich Kleiber. First success in South America, in the 1950s and 1960s engagements in Germany and Switzerland; since the 1970s has avoided long-term contracts, preferring guest performances with various orchestras of international standing. Debut in Vienna in 1973; conducted the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1989 and 1992. Awarded the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1993.
