Klostertal#
Klostertal, Vorarlberg, valley on the eastern side of the River Ill valley. The Klostertal stretches from the Arlberg pass to the west to Bludenz (alt. 588 m) and is drained by the Aflenzbach stream. To the north it is bordered by the Lechtal Alps and the Verwall mountains. The valley is named after a hospice on the Arlberg ("Kloesterle" = small monastery). The Arlberg road tunnel, which was opened in 1978 and is 13,972 m long, links the Klostertal with the winter resort St. Anton am Arlberg (alt. 1,284 m) in the Stanzer valley. Before 1978 there was only one road leading across the Arlberg pass (alt. 1,793 m).
