Koglmann, Franz, b. Vienna, May 22, 1947, musician, composer. 1961-1972 studied trumpet (jazz and classical) at the Vienna Conservatory; 1972 and 1973 studied in New York and Philadelphia. Worked with avant-garde jazz musicians in Vienna; 1980-1985 member of the Mitteleuropa Orchestra; founded the ensemble Pipetet in 1983, the Pipe Trio in 1986, and the Monoblue Quartet in 1990. 1995 American tour with Lee Konitz and the Pipe Trio. Considered one of the foremost Austrian jazz musicians as well as an important mediator between jazz and European avant-garde.
