Konzerthausgesellschaft, Wiener#
Konzerthausgesellschaft, Wiener, founded in 1900 by merging several musical associations to become the second largest concert organiser in Vienna (beside the Vienna Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde - Vienna Society of Friends of Music) with the aim of coordinating concert life in Vienna, which was hardly organised at that time, and at offering all strata of society a suitable concert programme. In 1913 the new Wiener Konzerthaus, built by F. Fellner and H. Helmer, was opened. Today the Konzerthaus boasts an extensive programme featuring classical music, childrens´ concerts as well as literary, jazz and folk music. From its beginnings the Konzerthaus has also focused on contemporary music (currently, "Wien modern" festival and "Hoergaenge" concert series), since 1993, also on early music (festival "Resonanzen"). The Konzerthaus is also the home and forum for numerous institutions and chamber music ensembles; supports up and coming musicians (initiatives such as "Musica juventutis" and "Forum junger Kuenstler"). During the time between the two world wars (1919-1938) and in the 1950s the Konzerthaus was also used as a congress centre.
