Kundl#
Kundl, Tirol, market town in the district of Kufstein, alt. 526 m, pop. 3,455, area 21.93 km2, , situated in the lower Inn Valley, southwest of Woergl. - Industrial and commercial centre, large number of commuters, 3,238 people employed, of which 82% in the production sector: Biochemie GmbH (penicillin production), tractor factory, gravel and concrete works, float and set production, wood processing (sawmill, joiner's shops, furniture factory), metal-working industry (laser cutting, special products for cableway construction etc.), powder coating factory, foundries, construction of furnaces and heating systems, brewery, transport companies. - Important excavations (since 1973) of a burial site from the Hallstatt and La-Tène periods and from Roman times; first documented mention in 788 as "ad Quantulas", iron and metal works in the late Middle Ages; Baroque parish church (1734-1736); Late Gothic pilgrimage church (1580-1512) with Late Gothic frescoes (16th century) in the gallery and the main building, interior from the 17th century; Kundlburg castle ruins (first documented mention in 1213); Wildschoenauer Ache stream with Kundler Klamm gorge.
