Lünersee#
Luenersee, Lake, Vorarlberg, alt. 1,970 m, 2 km long and 1.2 km wide, 139 m deep, largest natural Alpine lake in Austria, in the Raetikon mountains, east of the Brandner glacier (Schesaplana, alt. 2,965 m). From Schattenlagant (alt. 1,483 m) aerial ropeway to Lake Luenersee. The Luenersee pumped storage power station (mainly for peak load) was erected in 1954-1957; at the time, it was the world´s biggest station of its kind. The capacity of Lake Luenersee was raised to 78 mio. m3 of water. The Luenersee power station, which is part of the Vorarlberg Illwerke AG, makes use of a head of 976 m between Lake Luenersee and the Latschau storage reservoir in the south-east (994 m) and has a peak capacity of 232 MW. From the reservoir in Latschau (capacity 1 mio. m3) the water can be pumped back up to Lake Luenersee.
