Lackenbach#
Lackenbach, Burgenland, municipality in the district of Oberpullendorf, alt. 313 m, pop. 1,101, area 18.11 km2, situated at the southern foot of the Oedenburg Mountains. First documentary mention in 1222; new parish church (1962), castle (1548-1552, formerly moated castle) of the Esterházy dynasty, Jewish cemetery (18th - 20th centuries), cenotaph (1623) for commander M. Tarrody, who was killed in the battle of Lackenbach (1620); traditional Fahnenschwingen (flag waving) in Neckenmarkt on the Sunday after Corpus Christi day. Roma memorial for the victims of the National-Socialist concentration camp (1940-1945).
