Landsee#
Landsee, Burgenland, market town in the district of Oberpullendorf, alt. 627 m, popular place for day trips at the foot of Pauliberg hill (761 m) near the border with Lower Austria, cadastral district of the municipality of Markt Sankt Martin. - Classicist parish church (1800, renovated in 1909), Landsee castle ruins (first documented mention in 1158) on a rock, one of the largest castle ruins in Austria; 4 fortifications and 2 moats (year 1668 mentioned on the 1st gate), surround the Romanesque keep, which has 10 m thick walls, and the Gothic extensions; buildings (17th and 18th centuries) with stucco decoration; dilapidated since the fire in 1772.
