Lang, Fritz Friedrich Christian Anton#
b. Vienna, Dec. 5, 1890, d. Beverly Hills (USA), Aug. 2, 1976, film director. Studied architecture and art in Vienna and Munich. 1917 first film scripts, 1919 debut as a director with "Halbblut", first success with "Die Spinnen" (1919). Made some of the masterpieces of Expressionist film, such as the silent films "Die Nibelungen" (2 parts, 1924) and "Metropolis" (1926). From 1934 in the USA, returned to Germany in 1958. Last appearance in J. L. Godard's "Le Mepris" (1963).
