Lasser, Josef, Baron von Zollheim, b. Strobl (Salzburg), Sept. 30, 1815, d. Vienna, Nov. 19, 1879, statesman. 1848 liberal member of the Austrian Imperial Diet and the national assembly in Frankfurt. L. drafted the final version of the law abolishing the subservience of peasants (1848) and introduced by H. Kudlich. 1860/61 head of the Minister of Justice, 1861-1865 Minister of Political Administration, 1868-1870 governor of Tyrol. As Minister of the Interior in A. Auersperg´s liberal cabinet (1871-1878) pushed through electoral reform; after his dismissal appointed a life member of the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat.
