b. Bamberg (?; Germany), around 1520, d. Vienna, between 1564 and January 1566, copper engraver, etcher. From 1554 in Vienna portrait painter of Ferdinand I (portrait of the king, 1556); outstanding town views. His early landscape paintings are influenced by the Danube School. Engravings and etchings on display in the Vienna Albertina art collection.
