Leopold, Rudolf#

b. Vienna, March 1, 1925, ophthalmologist and art collector. L.'s valuable private collection of 5266 oil paintings, watercolours and drawings mostly by Austrian artists (including E. Schiele, R. Gerstl, G. Klimt and O. Kokoschka) from between 1880 and approx. 1950 was bought by the Austrian State (L. Foundation) as the basis for a new museum of early modern art in the Museumsquartier in Vienna (inaugurated 2001); L. is museum director for life of the L. Foundation (Stiftung L.).
