Lexikon, Oesterreichisches, the "Austrian National Encyclopaedia" (6 vols., 1835-1837 published in Vienna) was the first of its kind in Austria. The first volumes were published anonymously, in the last volume the authors, who had published their work at their own expense, revealed themselves to be F. Graeffer and J. J. Czikann. The encyclopaedia had been independently developed and distinguished itself from contemporary German and French encyclopaedias by including for the first time economic and judicial entries.
