Lindtberg, Leopold eigentlich L. Lamberger#
b. Vienna, June 1, 1902, d. Sils-Maria (Switzerland), April 18, 1984, actor and director. 1922 debut in Berlin, from 1926 onwards director. Was considered an avant-garde director of political theatre with intellectual aspirations. Emigrated to Switzerland in 1933, 1933-1945 director at the Zurich Schauspielhaus, then repeatedly at the Burgtheater, where he was made guest-director and honorary member. Directed productions of drama classics (Shakespeare's histories), and premières (e.g. H. von Hofmannsthal's "Der Turm", plays by J. Anouilh and A. Camus). 1963/64 taught at the Reinhardt Seminar, 1963-1965 head of the film department of the Academy of Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna, 1965-1968 manager of the Schauspielhaus in Zurich, director at the Salzburg Festival ("Faust", 1st and 2nd part); Co-author of film scripts ("Die Vier im Jeep", 1951).
