Loder, Matthäus#
b. Vienna, May 31, 1781, d. Vordernberg (Styria), Sept. 16, 1828, painter and iIllustrator. Studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, was intrigued by the scenic beauties of the Alps; study tours to the Schneeberg Mountain, to Upper Styria and the Salzkammergut lake district. Created illustrations describing fashions, everyday work, historical subjects and nature as well as humorous scenes. L. accompanied Archduchess Marie Louise to Italy as a drawing instructor in 1816 and became Kammermaler* to Archduke Johann (numerous water colours, mostly Styrian motifs and scenes from Archduke Johann's life).
