Lyzeum#
Lyceum: The term was first used to denote the school founded by the philosopher Aristotle ("Lykeion") near the temple of the god Apollo Lyceius ("wolf killer"). The humanists used "lyceum" as an honorary name for universities. In Austria, the term was the usual name for philosophical academies and for philosophic courses of study at university until 1848. From 1873 it became the name of the prototypical 6-form secondary girls' school in Graz, which, in modified form, was integrated into the regular school system in 1900 ( Maedchenlyzeum).
