Moerbisch am See, Burgenland, municipality in the district of Eisenstadt-Umgebung, alt. 122 m, pop. 2,279, area 28.05 km2, tourist resort (134,578 overnight stays) lying in a vine-growing region on the western shore (bathing area) of Lake Neusiedl, near the Hungarian border. - Border crossing point (for cyclists and pedestrians, open April-October) shipping customs post (customs boathouse); Moerbisch Lake Festival on a floating stage in the lake every year in July and August, mineral spring (1959 bored) with drinking fountain. - Finds from the Neolithic and Roman periods; first documented mention 1254. Typical features of the village are long rows of small, farm-like houses with covered stairways and corridors facing the inner courtyards, and old window shapes, built on narrow streets. - Parish church with Gothic east tower and classicist façade, nave with annex (1961/62); Protestant parish church (1792) with neo-Gothic façade and tower (1853/54).
