Mannersdorf an der Rabnitz#
Mannersdorf an der Rabnitz, Burgenland, municipality in the district of Oberpullendorf, alt. 245 m, pop. 2,749, area 49.07 km2, village originally set up around a village green; situated on the road to Koeszeg (Hungary); characterized by different kinds of farm houses (Hakenhof and Zwerchhof) which have mainly been adapted to modern standards. Catholic parish church with a 14th century choir; nave (1748), interior (after 1750), frescoes and murals (from the 14th and 15th centuries); Trinity column (1729). At the nearby village of Rattersdorf is a prilgrimage church with a churchyard surrounded by crenellated walls. The foundations of two medieval churches (the one dating from the 13th /14th centuries, the other from the 15th century) were used to set up this pilgrimage church, which was adapted in the Baroque style in 1696; decorated with two rows of murals (second half of the 18th century). Marienberg Monastery, once a Cistertian abbey founded in 1197, destroyed in 1532 (remainders of a medieval church have been excavated), re-built in 1680. Since then it has belonged to the monastery of Lilienfeld. Today the abbey buildings are used for cultural events. Baroque parish church (1741), centralized construction with an 18th century interior.
