Mansfeld, Ernst II#
Mansfeld, Ernst II, b. Luxembourg (Luxembourg), around 1580, d. Rakowica (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Nov. 29, 1626, army commander. Was a godson of Archduke Ernst and served the Habsburgs until 1610, when he joined the Protestant Union. Fought in Bohemia in 1618, was placed under the ban of the empire in 1620, devastated the Upper Palatinate, attempted to invade the Habsburg territory in 1625 and was defeated by Wallenstein on April 25, 1626.
