Mariahof, Styria, municipality in the district of Murau, alt. 963 m, pop. 1,324, area 32.71 km2, Summer resort (37,084 overnight stays) situated on the Neumarkter Sattel Pass (alt. 894 m). - Recreation home (Villa Barbara), power supply centre (private), Pichlschloss rehabilitation centre; timber processing, gravel works; ornithological research centre situated on Furtnerteich Pond (nature reserve). - Late Gothic parish church (first documented mention in 1066, present church building dating from the 14th century), was destroyed, and rebuilt and fortified between 1482 and 1511, nave redesigned in the Baroque style (1679-1681), impressive church tower, splendid high altar (after 1627) with a Gothic statue of the Virgin, side altars (dating from the second half of the 17th century), crucifixion group including a Late Gothic crucifix (around 1500-1510), panel painting of St. Beatrice (around 1520); Romanesque-Baroque church of St. Nicholas, Baroque interior, two Roman tombstones set into the church walls, church bells (dating around 1300, the 16th century.).
