Maurer, Ludwig#
Maurer, Ludwig, b. Vienna, April 17, 1946, biologist. Studied zoology, meteorology and biochemistry in Vienna; 1987 habilitation. 1976-1980 head of the biological laboratory at the testing and research centre of the City of Vienna (Versuchs- und Forschungsanstalt der Stadt Wien); 1980 co-founded the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Biological Agriculture and Applied Ecology, of which he has been the director since 1984. Was responsible for extensive preliminary work in preparing a legal basis for the regulation of organic farming in Austria; awarded the Konrad Lorenz Prize for Environmental Protection in 1997.
