Mayr, Peter#

b. Siffian near Bozen/Bolzano (South Tyrol), Aug. 15, 1767, d. Bozen/Bolzano (South Tyrol executed), Feb. 20, 1810, innkeeper and freedom fighter. Also called "Wirt an der Mahr" (innkeeper on the Mahr river), he was in command of the rebels in Tyrol's Fight for Freedom, which he continued after the Truce of Znojmo at Brixen/Bressanone and Klausen/Chiusa. P. Rosegger wrote a biographical novel about him in 1893. Monument in front of the tavern at the River Mahr near Brixen/Bressanone.
