Migazzi, Christoph Anton Graf#
b. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Oct. 14, 1714, d. Vienna, April 14, 1803, Archbishop of Vienna (1757) and cardinal (1761). 1752 envoy to Spain, 1760 president of the "academic court commission" established by Maria Theresia for the purpose of school reform. Fought against Josephinism, and its idea of a state church, which he opposed by incessantly defending the position of the Church; founded the Vienna Priest Seminary. During his office the archbishopric of Vienna grew to its present size.
