Millöcker, Karl#
b. Vienna, April 29, 1842, d. Baden (Lower Austria), Dec. 31, 1899, composer of operettas. 1858 flautist in the orchestra of the Theater in der Josefstadt, 1864 (on recommendation of F. von Suppe) conductor at a theatre in Graz; later at the Harmonietheater in Vienna, where he worked with L. Anzengruber, 1868 in Budapest, 1869-1883 at the Theater a. d. Wien. Together with J. Strauss the Younger and F. von Suppe the third representative of the classic Vienna operetta. His works are particularly distinguished by solid composition and skill. The most important interpreter of the later works was A. Girardi. Tomb of honour at Vienna Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof, 1901).
