Moosham#
Moosham, province of Salzburg, district of Tamsweg, castle in the municipality of Unternberg on a ridge protruding from the south face of the Mitterberg mountain; first documented mention 1256 (1202). The Roman road station of Immurium west of the castle was excavated between 1964 and 1970 (town hall, bath, Mithras shrine). Moosham Castle was constructed out of 2 castles dating from the 13th century, the lower castle started falling into decay in 1790 and rebuilding started in 1892. The upper castle was partly rebuilt in 1515-1522 and completed at the end of the 16th century, after 1892 restored and enlarged by Count H. Wilczek. Late Gothic castle chapel converted in Baroque style, with frescoes by G. Lederwasch (18th century), late Gothic winged altar-piece, glass paintings and carvings (15th century). Inside the castle, a first-class collection of objects of folk culture from many countries is on display. Nature park.
